Okay, so first one. I've heard of this band before, but I'd never...paid much attention or something. But. I just found the most awesome song.
The Drama Summer, by The Starting Line. Lyrics provided:
The Drama Summer
We could wait for the wind to blow Or give me a look so cold...It gives me chills And ends the summer war My eyes roll Around and over and again Falling down, dizzy with sun stroke I'll be there And I'll try to identify, try to look through the gray skies in your eyes.. And pick up everything you left behind Cross your fingers, and pray for winter I'll be there Painting the town your favorite color. Guess I'll call or see you around....yeah Guess I'll call or see you around. Guess I'll call or see you around....yeah Guess I'll call or see you around. I'll call, or see you around....yeah I'll call, or see you around. I'll call, or see you around....yeah I'll call, or see you around.
...painting the town your favorite color.
And this next one is by a band called Of Montreal. Anyone heard of them? Anyway. It's called Tim, Wish You Were Born a Girl. Lyrics provided:
Tim, Wish You Were Born a Girl
Tim, wish you were born a girl, So I could've been your boyfriend. I know it's not possible now. I just never met a girl I like half as much as you.
And we could lay around in bed, stay there all day, Or at least until the afternoon And I could make you spaghetti with tomato sauce With just a touch of oregano and a parsley stem.
And then when you got sick, I could take the day off work. I could've made you chicken soup, And we could watch soap operas - oh, those TV dramas! I could catch your cold and you could take care of me.
If I could've met you at school, or met you at work, It would have changed everything. Those years of losing, confusion and insecurity, They would have been shared, they would have been easier.
Tim, wish you were born a girl, So I could've been your fiancé. I'm not saying you can't be all these things for me, But it's just not the same because you're a man, and so am I.
That song just amused me completely. It's on my playlist right now, shuffled with a few other bands. I'm...relaxing. Fractionally.
Which reminds me.
Jon--thanks for the tea advice, man. I'll pick some up tomorrow. I just found a Hershey bar so I'm pretty set for the night as far as chocolate goes.

For the World Series, that is. I don't like the Cardinals, I don't like the Braves. The Padres are going to get spanked all over the field. I don't want to see the AL win it.
So yay Astros. Either Astros or...hell. I guess I like the White Sox okay. I hate the AL East.
This year has been so up and down for me. Right now it's just...down. Getting downer. Is that a word?
I want the season to be over. I need it to be over. I need to start over again in the spring, not get hurt. Be a workhorse.
I need to rethink many things. But for this off-season, at least, I get to be a dad full-time. I can't wait. Seaver's been learning to read. I thought he was too young, but hey, if he can do it, then he can do it. He's getting so big and I miss out on so much during the year. The off-season is such a blessing.
So I get to be a real dad instead of the Dad Who Is Mysteriously Absent For Half The Year. Seaver's starting pre-school next August. That'll be interesting. Until then, my ex-wife and I are going to be teaching him as much as we can. He's a smart kid, he'll learn fast.
I need to get to bed. I'm so tired lately. The season's worn me down, in mind and body.

So it's been an obscenely long time since I updated. And in that time, I've done really well, really bad, and gotten hurt.
I'm also getting strange feelings...but...better not talk about that here. Anyway.
I haven't got all that much to say. Just resting my arm. I haven't even started throwing yet. Which sucks, but. I mean, I still lift weights (left arm) and jog and such, but my right arm is pretty much useless.
I think I need to watch all six Star Wars movies.
Cappy? You up for it?

'Deep Throat' has been revealed. And no, I am not referring to the infamous porno. I mean the Deep Throat involved with the Watergate scandal.
I'm trying to care more than I actually do, but the only reason I'm even mentioning it is because it popped up on my MSN when I opened my browser.
Wesley goes tonight against Peavy. I don't think his real name is Wesley. But it's what I call him, so that's all that matters. Wesley's my buddy. He gets mad, though, when I ask him where Buttercup is. Oh, come on. Everyone and their dog has seen The Princess Bride. It's a classic.
Okay, so his real name is Wesley. It still fits.
Chris and I were bored earlier today so we watched some Star Wars and had this dumb, deep discussion about Anakin Skywalker being born of the Force. It was weird. He's a huge Star Wars fan. I just liked the movies.
I think the hardest I've laughed was when he said that Mark Prior could be called Darth Prior and it would still sound like a Sith name. Of course, we all know that Prior isn't a Sith lord. But still.
Darth Steinbrenner. That sounds right too.
Okay, I have to quit fooling around. I was supposed to leave half an hour ago, but I'm getting addicted to the Internet again, and I can't seem to make my web browser close. Must make self get offline.
I did okay against Houston in my first start back. Got the loss, but I did okay. Maybe next time will be better. It's what I'm hoping for.
Note to the people who think they are losers: You aren't.
And I'm done, I really am. Off to get fined for being late.

I pitch tomorrow, against Houston. I'm excited. It feels good to be back. No nausea, but some dizziness when I turn my head too fast. I can handle that, though, it isn't too much. I'm not falling and stumbling around anymore, at least. So Chris can stop calling me Dizzy Dean. Thanks, Christy.
I'm nervous as hell. So I'm off to bed.
Night, y'all.

...but I think I'm more like Leia right now or something. Chewbacca. Something. I'm certainly no Master anything when I'm stuck at home, fighting dizzy spells. I haven't even thrown off a mound. I haven't taken bp. I haven't done anything. And I won't do anything for another five days or so. Which is insanely frustrating. For anyone that doesn't know, here's a more detailed description of vestibular neuritis:
Vestibular neuritis causes dizziness due to an viral infection of the vestibular nerve. The vestibular nerve carries information from the inner ear about head movement. When one of the two vestibular nerves is infected, there is an imbalance between the two sides, and vertigo appears. Vestibular neuronitis is another term that is used for the same clinical syndrome. The various terms for the same clinical syndrome probably reflect our lack of ability to localize the site of lesion. The term "neuritis" implies damage to the nerve, and "neuronitis', damage to the sensory neurons of the vestibular ganglion. There is actually evidence for both. There is also some evidence for viral damage to the brainstem vestibular nucleus (Arbusow et al, 2000), a second potential "neuronitis". As the vestibular neurons are distinct from cochlear neurons in the brainstem, this localization (as well as the vestibular ganglion) makes more sense than the nerve in persons with no hearing symptoms. Nevertheless, if the nerve were involved after it separates from the cochlear nerve, neuritis would still be a reasonable mechanism. Prior to death and autopsy there is no way to make a clear distinction, and the present favored term is "neuritis."
The symptoms of both vestibular neuritis and labyrinthitis typically include dizziness or vertigo, disequilibrium or imbalance, and nausea. Acutely, the dizziness is constant. After a few days, symptoms are often only precipitated by sudden movements. A sudden turn of the head is the most common "problem" motion. While patients with these disorders can be sensitive to head position, it is generally not related to the side of the head which is down), but rather just whether the patient is lying down or sitting up.
(now you all know why I've been trying to stay very still and not move too much)
Acutely, vestibular neuritis is treated symptomatically, meaning that medications are given for nausea (anti-emetics) and to reduce dizziness (vestibular suppressants). Typical medications used are "Antivert (meclizine)", "Ativan (lorazepam) ", "Phenergan", "Compazine", and "Valium (diazepam) ". When a herpes virus infection is strongly suspected, a medication called "Acyclovir" or a relative may be used. Steroids (prednisone, methylprednisolone or decadron) are also used for some cases. Acute labyrinthitis is treated with the same medications as as vestibular neuritis, plus an antibiotic such as amoxicillin if there is evidence for a middle ear infection (otitis media), such as ear pain and an abnormal ear examination suggesting fluid, redness or pus behind the ear drum. Occasionally, especially for persons whose nausea and vomiting cannot be controlled, an admission to the hospital is made to treat dehydration with intravenous fluids. Generally admission is brief, just long enough to rehydrate the patient and start them on an effective medication to prevent vomiting. It usually takes 3 weeks to recover from vestibular neuritis or labyrinthitis. Recovery happens due to a combination of the body fighting off the infection, and the brain getting used to the vestibular imbalance (compensation). Some persons experience persistent vertigo or discomfort on head motion even after 3 weeks have gone by. After three months, testing (i.e. an ENG, audiogram and others) is indicated to be certain that this is indeed the correct diagnosis and a referral to a vestibular rehabilitation program, may help speed full recovery via compensation.
(I've been taking Anvtivert)
The person will probably be unable to work for one or two weeks. They may be left with some minor sensitivity to head motion which will persist for several years, and may reduce his or herability to perform athletic activities such as racquetball, volleyball and similar activities. After the acute phase is over, for a moderate deficit, falls are no more likely than in persons of his or her age without vestibular deficit (Herdman et al, 2000). Persons in certain occupations, such as pilots, may have a greater long term impact (Shupak et al, 2003)
So that's basically it. That's what's wrong with me. And it really, really sucks.
I'm off to do some light exercising; let's hope I don't get nauseous again.

I'm flying to St. Louis now. Sitting in the airport, actually. Still dizzy when I stand, but the nausea's gone. I was able to sleep a little bit better today.
For anyone that hasn't heard, vestibular neuritis is inflammation of the inner ear. Basically, I've been in an unholy amount of dizziness, as well as nausea. I couldn't stop throwing up for a time.
I'm feeling better now, but still kinda...crappy from the flu. At least that hasn't progressed into something worse.
I'd better go or else I'll space out and miss my flight. More later.
P.S.: Nice job on your homerun, Michael. Sorry I didn't tell you sooner. :)

I didn't too do well against the Astros last night. Six earned. Gave up back-to-back homers in the first inning. Struggled through the later innings. I just couldn't seem to stay focused. No, I was focused. I just couldn't seem to...to handle the ball, or something. It's difficult to say.
I've watched the tape over and over, and my stuff wasn't bad. They just hit everything. Homers, triples. They stole bases. It was wild.
Tonight'll be better, with Dougie on the mound.
I need sleep.

I made this thing last night, but it's only now that I'm actually doing something with it. Ben Sheets here, pitcher for the Milwaukee Brewers. I'm a little strange, and I'm scared of most everything. Including the dark. Yeah, I know, it's strange, but if your parents would turn out the lights just to see how fast you can run, you'd be afraid too.
I do love my parents, though. They're my best friends.
I was born and raised in Louisiana, and proud of my heritage. If only Louisiana had an MLB team. I'd be quite satisified. I love Milwaukee, though. Grew up on baseball, so whatever team I play for I absolutely love.
I'm having pretty much the best years of my life right now, so there's no complaining. I'm generally a happy-go-lucky guy--nothing much gets me down, and I don't worry about a lot of stuff. I know that there's more out there in the world than baseball (though nothing as important), so I try to keep my eyes open and look around me once in a while. You can see some pretty amazing stuff if you don't close your eyes.
You can really talk to me about most anything. I have a wide range of hobbies and interests. :)
Have a great day.
